In this project, I addressed the challenges in tabla maintenance by designing a specialised tool focused on drum tensioning. The existing maintenance process posed potential harm to the user, prompting comprehensive research, creative ideation, meticulous development, and successful project delivery. This tool not only aims to streamline and enhance the tensioning process but also prioritises user safety, offering an improved and safer alternative to traditional maintenance methods for tabla drums.
This project is dedicated to showcasing my creative process and ideation. In the initial weeks, we collectively completed a set of tasks focused on the Crate and Kids case study. This report will detail my ideas and demonstrate how I refined them to arrive at my final concept. The project closely follows a real-life design process, highlighting the importance of initial research to inform the development of ideas that address user pain points while staying in line with current trends.
The following report is a collection of 8 boards consisting of drawings, cad models, sketch models and more, all based on the AEIOU principle of design. These were made to aid the re-design of the toaster that was used in the first part of the project.
The aim of the report is to document the deconstruction of a toaster and create an accurate 3D digital model of the toaster. The materials and processes used to make the toaster will also be included in the report along with the positives and negatives of using them.Â
The subjective nature of design adds complexity, as individual preferences determine whether a piece is considered "good" or "bad."Â
During research, I was fascinated by how designers express historical culture, the evolutionary process, and a range of emotions through simple and intricate techniques on human faces and bodies.
Inspired by the work of designer Hsu Tung Han, born in Taipei, Taiwan, in 1962, this project melds art and archaeology. A National Taiwan University Anthropology graduate, Hsu's designs delve into various aspects of human society. His acclaimed "War Series" was featured in North American art exhibitions from 2004 to 2006. In this 3D design endeavor, I aim to provide a tangible representation of the excavation process. The pine hands serve as a symbolic expression of humanity's pursuit of unraveling historical mysteries, intending to not only meet the design challenge but also cultivate a deeper appreciation for the interconnectedness of craftsmanship, creativity, and the timeless allure of archaeology.
This project is an exciting journey into the captivating realm of 3D form and its intricate dance with semiotics and affordances, essential elements in crafting compelling visual brand language.
The heart of the project lies in the challenge of breathing vitality into a brand, requiring us to meticulously identify and analyze a target market. This process involves an immersive exploration of core values, shaped through extensive research and collaborative discussions.Â
In this report, I will be covering the various research methods used throughout the design process and how they have assisted. They will be explored and demonstrated by using the scenario of my user cleaning a hard-surfaced floor. The methods will be used to analyze this scenario, and as a result, a brief and specification will be produced. Furthermore, the methods will be evaluated to assess their usefulness.
